  • 16/08/201817/08/2018

The Founder Institute is the world’s premier pre-seed startup accelerator. Since 2009, we have helped over 3,100 companies raise over $700M and build some of the world’s fastest growing companies. Based in Silicon Valley and with chapters across 60 countries, the Founder Institute’s mission is to “Globalize Silicon Valley” and empower talented and motivated people to build impactful companies that create one million jobs.

Shashidhar is leading the Noida chapter along with Rajesh Malik and Aviral Pal for the new semester launch on 23 July 2018. The 14 weeks structured program is scheduled between November 2018 to February 2019. Now we are recruiting a batch of 30 aspiring founders through a series of content events.

We did our first event at the prestigious management institute, IIM Lucknow Noida campus on 11 August 2018 with the support from L-Incubator. There were around thirty five participants and three speakers attended the session. Indeed, it was a great experience interacting with professionals on the theme of ‘The Leap from Employee to Entrepreneur’.

The registrations are open at https://fi.co/apply?target=Noida The Founder Institute focuses on founders instead of ideas. If you are talented and motivated to do the work required to build an enduring tech or tech-enabled company, then we want to hear from you. This includes aspiring founders with a full-time job, solo founders, teams, and founders of established companies that are pre-funding.

Professionals opt for Independent Job

  • 15/08/201815/08/2018

The 10 minutes Video in Hindi language highlights the value created by the Gig Economy professionals. Since 2015, there is a sudden importance for freelancers! Prior to that freelancers were struggling to get bank loans, matrimony proposals, club invites and such social acceptance was lesser. Only those freelancers who did an exceptionally good job or who made huge money were recognized, not the rest. …Now, the equation has changed!! The employment landscape is fast-changing where more professionals are inclined towards independent works, flexible timings, more freedom to innovate and finally, balance between personal and professional life. And this is the precise opportunity for all of us. Each one of you is capable to succeed as a freelancer, but, it is easier when we go as a team in the global markets. …Forgetting all distractions, let us focus on freelancing as a core activity and then lifelong learning as an aid to growing it. Whether you remain as a freelancer or build a sustainable startup or a venture to scale up your activities is the choice after being successful as a Gig Economy professional.

How you run your business is completely up to you, but here are some practices from successful freelancers to consider. a) Communicate early, communicate often, Be proactive — clients usually get concerned when they don’t hear from a freelancer. b) Respect deadlines Deliver your work on time, every time. If you think you’ll miss a deadline, let your client know so they can plan accordingly. c) When in doubt, ask. This will help clear up the confusion, save time, and keep the job going smoothly. d) Be a pleasure to work with. Listen to your client’s concerns and respond with a positive attitude. Developing a rapport can make for a great work experience for both parties. e) Set clear expectations. Provide honest and realistic project updates and quickly alert your client when you encounter a problem. f) Under-promise, over-deliver. Never promise more than you can deliver and consider giving a little extra to every job.

Borderless Business in the Shrinking World

  • 15/08/201815/08/2018

It is a shrinking world! The Internet, mobility solutions, and technology advancements have diminished the barriers between people of different countries so that they could work together, collaborate, communicate and grow mutually. According to globalEDGE project, the world’s economy is increasingly global. As a result, demand continues to grow for individuals who understand the global context of business: from the logistics of international trade and cross-border investments to the cultural and ethical issues that are imbued in the practice of business around the world. By studying international business, you will learn about world cultures and societies, and be challenged to approach issues from different perspectives. These skills are increasingly valuable to employers faced with the challenge of opening and integrating multiple markets and achieving cohesion and collegiality in increasingly diverse workforces….This is the precise need of becoming a GLOBAL PROFESSIONAL. However, there are many professional champions who just cater to their neighborhood markets and succeed equally in the career path. We at greenworkforce recommend the balance between being a global professional versus a local champion. The reason is FUTURE IS UNCERTAIN as we are embracing 4th Industrial Age very rapidly. The addressable markets change the shape and size drastically. And whatever happens, it happens very quickly as against earlier days. …We live in an information abundant era. We have access to tons of Open Educational Resources and hence it is not at all difficult to acquire any skills if you plan it for the same. …As a GigTeam, let us give equal importance to learning every day to that of your work-life. Become a lifelong learner and a gig job practitioner!

GigTeams – explained

  • 14/08/201815/08/2018

Shashidhar was speaking at an event hosted by Prof M M Pant at The Woods, Gurugram on the theme of ‘Educating Humans in the AI Era’. The relevance of GigTeam was to explore how a large population could be reached with the mission of evangelizing lifelong learning. There were other professionals sharing their thoughts too on related topics.

Prof M M Pant stated “My own major takeaway was that we need to explore lifelong learning as opposed to a finite diploma or degree oriented learning, helping us develop as ‘humans’ and not merely job-ready for the day. Which means pursuing the hard Sciences like Physics, Chemistry, Biology, but Sociology, Psychology and Anthropolgy as well. On a foundation of Philosophy and Mathematics which were said to be 2 sides of the same coin. Or perhaps on the same side itself as in a Möbius strip.
In recent times, we are swiftly moving forward having understood the world of atoms to a better understanding of the world in terms of bits, qbits and quantum Thinking and quantum computing. This is perhaps the current ‘obsession’ with AI, Machine Learning and allied Technologies such as Big Data, Blockchain, IoT, 3D Printing and so on.”

Why daily practice? Learning from the teaching profession

  • 13/08/201815/08/2018

GigWarriors succeed only when they practice their work on a daily basis.

I teach rural Government school students in Karnataka two to four hours every week during these two years using Skype as a technology channel to reach them. And, I am assigned with English teaching to Kannada medium students in the primary classes. Indeed, it is a challenge to deliver my part and get some results that the children in the class accept English as a friendly language.
I did not stick to the conventional style of school teaching and the framework. Instead, I prepared certain rituals for them to practice every day so that they keep learning English of their own irrespective of me or any other teachers taking the class every week. One such piece goes like this… English is just another language like Kannada! When we think of English skills, the ‘four skills’ of listening, speaking, reading, and writing readily come to mind. Of course, other skills such as pronunciation, grammar, vocabulary, and spelling all play a role in effective English communication. You know how much time you can dedicate to learning English, but a short time each day will produce better, longer-term results than a full day on the weekend and then nothing for the entire week. Learn new words, listen to English News, Read Books, talk in English with your friends and practice it every day…I was surprised to see a few students in the class really practicing it daily. Most of them are 1st generation learners in their family. They are the role models for others to follow.

This is what we expect from GigTeams precisely! A daily commitment of at least one hour is essential to win the jobs in the GigEconomy marketplaces. t is suggested to keep aside at least 1 hour in a day for yourself, a calendar system works better than random timings. When you setup your profile in any of the freelancing platform, please remember to setup an email alert for new jobs matching your criteria. Most of them have a feature to set an email alert and you would get it in your inbox. So, even before you login to the system, you are aware of the new opportunities. Those who have Android or iOS Apps anyway could get real-time alerts for every new opportunity…Every job post matching your profile criteria is a potential revenue source even if you do not bid on it and hence researching and nurturing those contacts must be a routine task for you. Proposal submission is one part, the equal importance has to be given to a) Research about the client, his company and their activities. Normally, better insights would be available at Linkedin. Please do not forget to follow that company, send a connection request to the key people there and that is the way get familiar wi the client. The chances of getting the job are far higher when there is a KNOWN factor. b) Build the contact list either using MailChimp or any other personal CRM kind of tool. This is the list which helps you to broadcast the updates from your end to all the prospects on a regular basis. …What if you don’t win the bid, but building a relevant international network and targetted prospect database itself is a big win for you. I call this as a digital asset. You could really translate every interaction with the prospect clients into revenue in a strategic way. …Finally, build your personal brand in the freelancing world with which you could sell your services for a few dollars more.
